ICTC Student Work Placements – Innovation Ready Graduates

November 28, 2017

If you are an employer looking for industry ready graduates to help you fast track your business growth needs, then look no further.

The Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) is developing partnerships between employers and post-secondary education (PSE) institutions to assist post-secondary students in science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) acquire work experiences they need to prepare for jobs in high-demand fields.

The national program combines academic learning with practical industry experiences (co-ops) through funded wage subsidies to a maximum of 16 weeks in the following high growth sectors of the Canadian economy: Fintech, Intelligent Retail, and Advanced Manufacturing. Employers can receive wage subsidies of up to 50 percent of the wage cost for the placement (up to a maximum of $5,000 per placement) or a maximum of 70 percent (up to a maximum of $7,000 per placement) for under-represented students including first-year students, women in STEM, Indigenous students, persons with disabilities and recent immigrants (within the last 5 years). Placements in the gaming and entertainment industry, e-health, cybersecurity, and big data will also be considered as part of this program.

Students currently in STEM fields are encouraged to explore with their PSE institution to see if such placements are available to apply for. Students must meet the required criteria of being a full-time STEM or business student in a post-secondary institution. Students must be Canadian citizens, landed immigrants, or have a refugee status and must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Act early as placements are limited and be part of this exciting initiative that connects employers with innovation ready graduates. A winning combination for business growth and the opportunity for recent graduates to enter well-paying careers.

Applications are now being accepted for the placements starting in January 2018. For additional information or to apply, please visit our website or connect with Sarah Storm [email protected]
