A Volta Event
For the sixth year running, Volta is Halifax’s jam site for Global Game Jam! GGJ will be a weekend full of game creation, design and prototyping. Get ready to jam
What is a Global Game Jam?
Global Game Jam is an event where people come together and make a video game, or non-digital game like a board game or card game. Participants rapidly prototype game designs, based on a theme and constraints that will be revealed at the time of the event, to create a game from beginning to end in a prescribed time (maximum of 48 hours). The brief time span is meant to encourage creative thinking to build small but innovative and experimental games.
Who is invited?
Anyone who wants to create a video game, board game or card game is welcome to collaborate with other gamers, designers, developers and people interested in learning about game creation.
Participants must be of the age of majority (19+) to participate. Please do not come to the Jam with a team. Ideally, everyone forms teams on the Friday, and will have the chance to work with a new collaborator or a few!
Do I need special skills to participate?
Although having computer skills is helpful, code experience is not necessary. Designers, developers, artists and more are all welcome to try their hand at making a game.
When is Global Game Jam?
The Halifax GGJ will start at 5pm on January 25 and goes for 48 hours through to January 27. Work (including source code and executable) should be uploaded to the Global Game Jam site by 3pm on Sunday, January 27.
